My Xbox History
This is mostly boring stuff so skip it if ya want.
It started sometime early 2004. A friend of mine gave me an Xbox that didnt have a hard drive or power supply. Having a knowledge of computers, I attempted to rewire a computer power supply for the Xbox. I stopped however, upon discovering that the standby voltages are different. Another thing that halted progress on that was knowing that I needed to figure out how to get a hard drive to work.
Things were forgotten for a few months until the same guy decided he wanted a newer version Xbox, and I think he was tired of it because he said he installed a modchip, but it never worked. So I took it from him, and treated like a normal Xbox. Had fun with it for a month or two before I started getting.....the itch.
I started reading up on http://www.xbox-scene.com for about 2 weeks, taking everything in, especially about modchips. Finally I opened the Xbox up and found the chip. After figuring out what it was, I set out to see why it wasnt working. That took about 10 minutes, when I saw that he had simply screwed down the header pin onto the LPC port, which was filled with solder, a.k.a. a v1.0 Xbox. I soldered it in, placed the d0 pin in the proper hole and fired up my modded Xbox.
From there it's been a learning experience. Within the past 8 months (of this writing) I have shuffled the chip from box to box, flashed TSOPs, and recently softmodded. So as far I can see, I have modded Xboxes all 3 of the most popular methods. I can only think of one other way, but it hasn't been publicly released. I am speaking of the 'controversial' hacked DVD firmware method. Controversial because many believe it was a hoax, which I doubt since it was done by a reputable member of the scene. (update - this is now a common method for both Xbox and Xbox360)
So anyway, it has been a fun time. Once the power of the Xbox360 is unlocked, I'll move onto that and start learning all over again.
Enjoy.
